Projects and focus areas
On the idea and concept — the role of the app
The exhibition area of 10,000 sqm was deliberately chosen to be large — large enough not to minimise the history and not to give the impression that it had been dealt with.
Offering the wealth of information with layers of depth in parallel digital form — as a structured guide on the smartphone alongside the labyrinth of history — was part of the concept. The evaluation confirmed it. History and the conveying of history need new, combined formats like this one. They are not bound to museums but can be realised in public space in a low-threshold and economical way.
In this way a small team was able to manage — alongside preparing the content and the design — also the set-up, dismantling and round-the-clock operation over four months. What remains is the app: reusable for future locations and as a permanent research resource and digital reflection of the exhibition.
With the BayernHistoryApp you have access to all chapters and texts of the exhibition — including audio content and numerous links to further websites, documents and videos. The entries are continually complemented with further information and depth.
Since 2013 I have developed formats with hoarding installations that negotiate history temporarily, flexibly and dynamically in public space. This contemporary form of conveying history offers an open space for discourse — a dynamic and living engagement with history. With the BayernHistoryApp there is now the ideal complement on site, and for permanent, location-independent accompaniment and contextual depth.
